The £7million flood scheme in Swansea Vale has reduced flood risk for over 300 businesses and homes. Flood banks along 4km of the River Tawe were raised and low bridges that had risked restricting flood flows were removed. A new bridge for cyclists and pedestrians was installed above the level of flood flows, and new banks were constructed away from the river channel creating 6 hectares of wetland wildlife habitat and community space. 3km of cycle path was also upgraded, forming part of the national cycle network.
An area along the river was identified as being at high risk of flooding.
